Marshall Plan Chair - Application Information
Introduction
CenterAustria at the University of New Orleans hosts the Marshall Plan Anniversary Chair. The Chair is filled with a visiting scholar or experienced diplomat or a member of the Austrian Diplomatic Corps who possesses an extensive experience in diplomacy.
2009-2010 Program
The University will select a diplomat in residence to fill the Chair for the 2009-2010 academic year. The successful applicant will carry the title of Diplomat in Residence and Marshall Plan Anniversary Chair.
Eligibility
Applicants should possess an earned Ph.D. degree in a field relevant to the 2009-2010 program OR have significant career experience in the Austrian diplomatic corps or related government agency, a strong publication record, and outstanding teaching credentials.
Members of government and research institutes, who possess a strong research and publication record and outstanding teaching credentials, are encouraged to apply also.
Obligations of the Chair
The successful applicant will be expected to be in residence at the University of New Orleans during the 2009-2010 academic year, i.e., August 15, 2009 – May 15, 2010. During that time, the Chair will teach a total of three courses to be agreed upon between the Chair holder and the relevant host department at UNO. In addition, the Chair will be expected to take part in the activities of Center Austria, including participation in its annual symposia and the delivery of at least one public lecture in March 2009.
Compensation
The Chair will be paid a stipend of $5,500 per month for the nine months of the academic year.
Support
CenterAustria also will provide assistance in finding housing in New Orleans as well as for scheduling of lectures and other activities.
University of New Orleans and Center Austria
The University of New Orleans is the urban campus of the Louisiana State University System. The University enrolls approximately 12,000 students annually in programs at the Bachelor, Master, and Ph.D. levels (a PhD programs exists in financial economics). The University has a thirty-plus year relationship with institutions of higher education in Austria. CenterAustria administers the University’s strong relationship with the University of Innsbruck and other Austrian universities. Joint programs include: educational travel, publications, research, symposia, and student and faculty exchange.
Application Process Applicants should submit a letter of application and two letters of recommendation attesting to the capabilities of the applicant. The letter of application should indicate research fields and proposed teaching areas that will contribute to the mission of CenterAustria in one of the academic specialties chosen for 2009-2010. While the Marshall Plan Anniversary Chair will support the ongoing research of the occupant, it is expected that the chief contribution of the visiting professor will be in teaching undergraduate and graduate students.
