Competing Memories? Remembering the Holocaust and the Gulag in European Post 1989 Identity
Dr. Andreas Pribersky (Marshall Plan Chair, UNO and Professor of Political Science at the University of Vienna) and Dr. Alla Rosca (Visiting Fulbright Professor, UNO, Professor of Political Science, Moldova State University) delivered talks on the topic of memory in the European Union and countries formelry belonging to the Eastern Block.

Austrian National Holiday
On the occasion of the Austrian National Holiday members of the Austrian Community in New Orleans (Club Schönbrunn) and students from Center Austria celebrated together in the spectacular Plimsoll Club of the New Orleans World Trade Center. The luncheon was hosted by Philip Lorio III, the Honorary Consul General of Austria for Louisiana and Mississippi, and his spouse Kathy. Center Austria director, Dr. Guenter Bischof, delivered the luncheon speech.

Center Austria - Guest Lecture
Austria’s Economic And Social Performance 2000-2006 Within A European Context
Andrea Grisold, Professor of Economics at the Vienna University of Economics, and Wolfgang Maderthaner, Director of the Austrian Society of Labor History, held a guest lecture on the economic and social performance of Austria during the “Schüssel government 2000-2006”. During these years, a coalition formed between the “Österreichischen Volkspartei” (ÖVP) and the “Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs” (FPÖ) was in power.
An Interview with Dr. Gordon “Nick” Mueller
Some 30 years ago Dr. Gordon “Nick” Mueller launched the University of New Orleans Summer School at the University of Innsbruck, which contributed significantly to a close cooperation between the universities and cities of Innsbruck and New Orleans. Dr. Mueller, also current President and CEO of the National World War II Museum - one of New Orleans’ main attractions - talked with Austrian Information about the different stations of his career, his current responsibilities in New Orleans two years after Hurricane Katrina and his strong ties with Innsbruck, Austria.

Professor of Economics at the Vienna University of Economics. She has published widely on the Austrian cultural industry and has held the Marshall Plan Chair at the University of New Orleans.

Dr. Wolfgang Maderthaner
Director of the Austrian Society of Labor History. He has published on the formation and the theory of modernity as well as on Fordism and Postfordism in the Central European context.
