Conferences
Since the first symposium jointly organized by the University of Innsbruck and the University of New Orleans was held in New Orleans in 1982, no fewer than 31 such symposia have taken place, alternating between the two cities.
The symposia have provided a forum for American and Austrian scholars to present and discuss papers on topics of common interest with an emphasis on comparative perspectives. meanwhile, both universities provide for a basic budget, which -if necessary- is enlarged by public and private sponsoring.
From the very beginning, the symposia have been open to the public, and almost all of the conference proceedings have been published, which has taken the exchange of academic discoveries far beyond the two partner institutions.
Transatlantic Lecture Series
Established in 1991, the Transatlantic Lecture series brings scholars from the University of New Orleans to Innsbruck to present lectures of general academic and public interest.
Among the scholars who have participated are Charles Hadley, Stephen Ambrose, Ronal Serpas, and Gordon H. “Nick” Mueller.
In 2002, the Transatlantic Lecture Series became a cultural event when New Orleans blues singer Marva Wright was invited to perform at the fourth New Orleans Festival in Innsbruck.
