A delegation from the City Council of Innsbruck was in New Orleans last week to renew the sister-cities agreement, which was first signed in 1995 on the initiative of Dr. Gordon “Nick”Mueller, the first Director of Center Austria.

Center Austria director Günter Bischof and Austrian Ministry of Science Fellow Katja Maierhofer attended the XV Annual Convention of the Centers for Austrian and Central European Studies at the University of California, Berkeley.

Innsbruck students say goodbye to the Center Austria coordinator as the semester comes to a close

The end of the semester brought Center Austria friends and students together to celebrate the past, present, and future:

The Austrian Centers of the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and New Orleans, together with the Botstiber Foundation and the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation, organized a workshop in Minneapolis from April 19 - 20, 2023, entitled “Reassessing Bruno Kreisky’s Contributions to Postwar History.”

Center Austria was delighted to welcome a group of Geography students and their two professors to the UNO campus.

The personal and professional life of Bruno Kreisky (1911–1990), Austria's long-serving Socialist chancellor from August 1970 to May 1983, has been the focus of many books and articles. However, his ambiguous and complex relationship to his Jewishness, the State of Israel, and Zionism, as well as his connections to his overall political project and global aspirations, remain only partially researched. This book studies and analyzes these more systematically and comprehensively and places Kreisky in a comparative perspective with other twentieth-century European Jewish politicians who attained similar pinnacles of power. At the same time, the book will show that Bruno Kreisky was among the most influential and controversial political leaders since World War II.
